This happens to be my favorite track on the Tamer Animals album, which is out now via TBD.
Gotye’s album, ‘Making Mirrors,’ is set to be released stateside on January 31st (happy birthday to me), but you can listen to it in its entirety now thanks to NPR.
When I was first introduced to the extremely palatable single, “Somebody That I Used To Know,” featuring Kimbra, I must have hit replay about ten times, and the accompanied video is pretty neat as well (see below). Actually, I think the video is rather brilliant, it makes the song much more potent.
Thematically, ‘Making Mirrors’ is pretty consistent but musically, it’s very eclectic. While there’s a heavy retro pop feel gluing the album together, Debacker also painted his collection with some soul, rock, electronic spurts and soft sincere moments. The diversity of the album is quite refreshing. “In Your Light”, which seems to borrow a bit from George Michael’s, “Faith,” is a far cry from the ethereal, and rather depressing track, “Bronte,” which is in total contrast of the uplifting, “I Feel Better”…yet the album stays sewn together.
